Our Nuur Women’s Center was established in 2023 as a place where women can learn practical skills, build capacity, and gather together to share their lives as well as what they are learning.
Our Training Center was established in 2023 as a place where people can develop key skills and build their capacity on a personal and professional level. While our center has offered a variety of programs since opening, we have highlighted a few of those programs below. If you would like to know more, check out the annual report at the bottom of the page to see specifics about last year!
Sewing
Our Sewing Project aims to empower and equip women with the knowledge and skills they need to start their own seamstress businesses, with an emphasis on quality, creativity, and a desire to serve the community through training others in what they have learned.
The Sewing Project was established in 2023 as part of the Noor Women’s Centre, and facilitates courses on sewing basics for small groups of women. During the course, participants each have their own sewing machine to practice on and learn all the skills they need to complete various outfits and styles. Our small class sizes and hands-on approach mean that women who may not otherwise have the opportunity can learn how to sew and put it into practice in their own lives immediately.
Embroidery
Our Embroidery Project teaches participants embroidery in order to foster sustainable skill development so that women who have taken part in the course can work for themselves and teach others, too.
The Embroidery Project was established in 2023, as part of Omega’s Women’s Centre. Participants come once a week to learn basic embroidery skills and stitches, and have worked on various kinds of needlework, including cross stitch, beading, and embroidery. Every week, students complete a small project as they learn a new skill, and take their project home. Participants can continue in the classes indefinitely, with the hope of becoming experts who can then teach these skills to other women, as well as use these skills to start businesses.
